Undergraduate research opportunities

Learning Development has opened a call to all undergraduate students to fund 36 students to attend the British Conference of Undergraduate Research 2018 (BCUR) and Posters in Parliament 2018 (PiP).

Published:

Both events are invaluable experiences and an excellent opportunity for undergraduates to develop their interest in research and experience an interdisciplinary academic conference.

BCUR

BCUR is a two day, interdisciplinary conference, which this year takes place at the University of Sheffield on 12–13 April 2018. Undergraduates from across the UK and beyond gather together to give presentations, performances and display posters that communicate an aspect of their research to an audience of their peers.

QMUL are funding 36 students (12 from each faculty) to take part in BCUR 2018. First, second and third years are all welcome to apply. Learning Development will be organising the application process, accommodation and travel. Applications open on Tuesday 3 October and close on Monday 13 November. Further details can be found on our website: www.learningdevelopment.qmul.ac.uk/UGResearch.

PiP

Run as part of BCUR (but with a separate application process), Posters in Parliament gives students the chance to present their undergraduate research to other students, to politicians and to interested academics in the Houses of Parliament. Again, it’s an invaluable experience in communicating their undergraduate research to a wider audience.

Taking place on Tuesday 20 February 2018, two students will spend the day at the Houses of Parliament, where they’ll exhibit their poster in a conference-style setting, answer questions and discuss their research with fellow students and interested parties. A member of the Learning Development team will accompany the students and liaise with PiP on the students’ behalf.

Applications also open on Tuesday 3 October and close on Monday 29 January 2018. Again, further details can be found on our website: www.learningdevelopment.qmul.ac.uk/UGResearch.

If you have any questions about BCUR or PiP, please email Julian Ingle and Heather Campbell at learningdevelopment@qmul.ac.uk.
