On Monday 21 November, the University’s Senior Executive Team (SET) came together with student leaders at an event hosted by the Queen Mary Students’ Union – the second event of its kind following a successful launch of the initiative last year.
The meeting provided an opportunity for student leaders to meet with SET members in small groups to discuss student feedback and hear about students’ experience, engaging in positive, student-focused dialogue.
The event welcomed over 25 student leaders, including part-time officers from schools and representatives from welfare and student groups as well as elected Executive Officers. Topics brought forward by students included student wellbeing, sustainability, inclusivity, student funding and priorities in student experience and extracurricular activities. Group discussion was followed by open networking between leadership groups.
President and Principal Professor Colin Bailey said: "At Queen Mary, we are proud to co-create our student experience directly with our students. Events like this one are so important to that work. They help ensure we are building and maintaining relationships between University staff and our students and student representatives, hearing about their experiences first-hand. I and my SET colleagues looking forward to continuing that dialogue throughout the year."
Students’ Union President Adi Sawalha said: "It was incredible to see students and SET coming together in direct and positive discussions. We hope after today’s event students and SET are more comfortable with building on relationships started today as they see each other around campus. We look forward to hosting another event soon."
The meeting provided a great opportunity for SET members to engage with student leaders, and will be taken forward in further opportunities for dialogue and collaboration.
