Queen Mary received more than £300,000 in funding from the Office for Students earlier this year to support study and living costs for those who need additional financial support due to Covid-19.
The funds were open to all home, EU and international undergraduates and postgraduates, and included bursaries and financial assistance awards. All students were encouraged to apply, and more than 1,600 applications were received. We are pleased to report that all of the funds were allocated, and £470,000 was awarded in total with Queen Mary paying for the remainder of the awards.
Lesley Green, Assistant Academic Registrar (Bursaries, Grants and Scholarships), said: "These are very exceptional and challenging times and we are really happy that we have been able to support so many students and provide funding to help them to continue to study when they have been most in need. We received an overwhelming number of applications and the Bursaries Team, with the support of colleagues from the Academic Registry worked incredibly hard to process these applications and ensure students received their awards."
Bursaries up to £1,000 were available to support care leavers and/or estranged students, and students with children living with them. Financial assistance awards up to £750 were also available to support students based on financial need, including those who were unable to work, needed help with accommodation or living costs, or needed help towards buying a laptop to support remote learning and other peripheral IT costs (ie internet).
This funding is now closed. However, if you are in financial need, and fulfil the criteria, please apply to the Financial Assistance Fund.
