We are proud to announce that Queen Mary has successfully achieved the EcoCampus Silver Award in recognition of the work taking place to improve the environmental sustainability of our campuses. This Thursday, 22 April, marks Earth Day 2021, and this year’s theme is Restore Our Earth. The award shows our commitment to protecting the Earth’s resources by working towards the international standard of good practice in environmental management.
The Silver award builds on our success in January on achieving Bronze, which means that Queen Mary conforms to the requirements of the Silver (Implementing) Phase of the four-phase award programme leading towards the implementation of a fully operational environmental management system.
This award, together with the recent publication of our Sustainability Action Plan and Policy, shows our commitment to becoming a leading environmentally friendly university. Staff and students have engaged in practical ways to demonstrate our commitment through canal cleans, the planting of an orchard on campus, and new recycling initiatives.
Queen Mary’s students and are actively encouraged to take part in our work towards environmental sustainability. Students can complete an optional module on sustainable development.
