QM Elevate: tips for building good habits

Published:

Tip 1: Build a regular study routine

Attend your classes, check QMplus regularly and keep up with weekly tasks. A good routine can make your workload more manageable, help you stay on track and boost your confidence throughout the semester.

Tip 2: Read beyond the lecture slides

Keep up with your module reading and explore recommended resources. Reading regularly will deepen your subject knowledge, help you make connections between different ideas and develop your critical thinking.

Tip 3: Develop your academic voice

University is not just about learning new ideas, but also about developing and communicating your own. Take part in discussions, ask questions and practise expressing your ideas and arguments clearly and confidently.

Put these habits into practice with QM Elevate

QM Elevate academic and professional communication classes can help you build the skills that support your engagement, progression and academic success. Meet students from across Queen Mary, strengthen your academic and professional communication skills, and receive individual feedback from experienced tutors.

The commitment is just two hours a week for 5 or 10 weeks, with no preparation required and no assessment – just turn up, engage and develop. All classes are free and can be taken alongside your degree.

Most classes are now fully booked, but places are still available on selected modules:

  • EAL4610 The Process of Writing
  • EAL4630 Structuring Arguments and Avoiding Plagiarism
  • EAL4731 Grammar in Context 1
  • EAL4740 Editing and Proofreading
  • EAL6200 Intercultural Communication for the Global Workplace
  • EAL6201 Professional Writing for the Global Workplace

The first round of registration closes on 9 October, so don’t leave it too late. Register via MySIS and find detailed registration information on the QM Elevate webpages.
