This transformative development will build on our already strong presence in Whitechapel. The new life sciences facility strengthens our commitment to tackling health inequalities at a local, national and global level through multi-disciplinary research, teaching and community engagement.

Benefit for all our students, staff and local community is central to our plans for the development of our Whitechapel campus. Increasing our footprint at Whitechapel will enable us to deliver improved facilities for everyone and encourage wider use of our Whitechapel campus by all students and staff. We are working with our Students’ Union to ensure students’ views feed into our plans. This work includes looking at options for the relocation of the current Students’ Union facilities at Whitechapel.

The development is a major part of the wider Whitechapel Life Sciences Cluster, an initiative involving Queen Mary, Barts Health NHS Trust and the Department of Health and Social Care, that will establish east London as a major centre of excellence in life sciences, creating high-quality jobs and skills programmes, and attracting industry investment from start-ups to multi-national corporations.
