Mile End Library Transformation Update: July 2023

A major programme of works to transform Mile End Library.

Published:

Phase 3 of the Mile End Library Transformation is well underway; starting in June, contractors have begun work to:

  • Finish floors 3 and 4 by installing glazing to form the group study rooms, lightwell and staircases.
  • Create a new Archives Reading Room in 2nd floor south, as well as refurbish the Research and Taught Postgraduate Reading Rooms, and the rest of the open study area with new furniture, carpet and a coat of paint
  • Refurbishing the entire 1st floor.

A book collection service is operating for items on the 1st floor, and there will be intermittent periods of noise affecting the 2nd floor north reading room. Due to work on the main staircase, there is scaffolding between ground, first and second floors reducing capacity, please take care when moving around these areas.

The work is scheduled to be completed in September, exact dates to be confirmed.  You can find more information on the project, as well as progress photos on the Mile End Library Transformation Project webpages.
