Mile End Library closed this weekend, 23-24 January

The Library at Mile End will be closed Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 January for essential electrical work to take place. UK Power Networks will be replacing the low voltage (LV) panel, a key part of the electrical system in the Library.

What is the impact on users of the Mile End Library? 

The Mile End Library will close at midnight on Friday 22 January and reopen at 8am on Monday 25 January.

Staff, students and visitors will not be able to access the Library building.

Alternative study space

You won’t be able to study at Mile End Library this weekend. The Hive will be open over the weekend to provide alternative study space. Book your study space at https://qmul.libcal.com/.

Online library resources available as usual

Online library services will not be impacted and access to the library catalogue will still be available.

IT servers

Core services such as QMPlus, the Queen Mary website and My QMUL will not be affected by this outage.

Please note that the Film Studies (Editshare) server is affected by this outage and anyone who uses this server will be contacted.

The affected servers will be taken off line at 5pm on Friday and restored on Monday morning by 8am.

When will the work happen and for how long? 

The work will start at 8am on Saturday 23 January and scheduled to complete at 5pm on Sunday 24 January. The building will remain closed until 8am on Monday 25 January to ensure that services are tested and fully operational before the Library reopens. 

Who is affected? 

All those who use or visit the Library at Mile End – students, staff and visitors.
