Our Principal Professor Colin Bailey wrote to all students on Friday 15 November with news that our education has been rated Outstanding following a recent Ofsted visit.
Dear student,
I hope by now you are feeling well settled into the first semester. I know this time of year can be challenging as the nights draw in and the prospect of exams are looming, but we have so much support on offer to help you – please do reach out if you need it.
Queen Mary’s teaching rated Outstanding
Ofsted, one of our national regulators, sent seven inspectors over four days to assess the quality of our education. Following the intensive on-campus review they rated all our education activities as ‘Outstanding’ with no suggestions of ‘what we could do better’, which is unheard of! This independent review confirms the world-leading education that is delivered at Queen Mary University of London, and I’m so pleased for our staff, students and partners who have rightly been recognised as ‘Outstanding’!
While the visit focused on our degree apprenticeship programmes, the outstanding results clearly demonstrate the quality of our education more broadly, since the same teaching, education and student support is delivered to all our students. I know everyone at Queen Mary is rightly proud of this great achievement.
Careers & graduate outcomes
The Ofsted assessors noted that our apprenticeship students not only benefit from demanding and ambitious teaching but develop substantial new knowledge and skills. This is a hugely important part of the education you receive at Queen Mary and there’s support available through our Careers and Enterprise team to help prepare you, whatever your programme of study, for your future.
We are among the top 20 universities in the UK targeted by leading employers (according to The Graduate Market in 2024 report), and our graduates go on to very well-paid jobs: a recent ranking from the Daily Mail placed us 12th in the UK for graduate earnings, and for this measure The Telegraph ranks two of our subjects top in the country.
Other successes
This news is the latest in a stream of recognition for the work of our staff and students including:
I hope you feel proud of the external recognition of the leading education that you receive at Queen Mary University, and the way employers are keen to employ you based on the education and experience you have received at your University.
Best wishes,
Colin
