A message from the Principal sent to staff on 21 November 2019
Dear colleagues,
It is with great sadness that I inform you that our colleague Dr Daniel Kato passed away yesterday.
Daniel was a Lecturer in US Politics within the School of Politics and International Relations (SPIR). Since obtaining his PhD in 2009 Daniel taught at a number of Universities in America and in the UK before joining Queen Mary in 2016. His book, Liberalising Lynching: Building a new Radicalised State, was published in 2015, and received the prestigious 2016 Charles Taylor Book Award.
He was an outstanding scholar in the early stages of what promised to be an exceptional career. He was a cherished colleague, known for his energy, enthusiasm and tireless commitment to his work.
Many people across the University, particularly Daniel’s close colleagues in SPIR, are still coming to terms with this news, and our thoughts are with Daniel’s family, friends, colleagues and students at this time.
With best wishes,
Colin
