Important update: Changes to exam arrangements 8-12 January

Trudy Mason, Director Of Registry Services, wrote to all students regarding changes to timings of in-person exam arrangements between 8 and 12 January 2024 due to potential disruption to the London Underground network.

Published:

Dear student,

Disruption to the London Underground network is currently planned from the evening of Sunday 7 through to the morning of Friday 12 January due to strike action. If the strikes go ahead, there will be severe disruption to Tube services throughout this period. Find out more on the Transport for London website.

Changes to in-person exams: 8-12 January

To help minimise any disruption to in-person exams taking place on campus between 8 and 12 January, we have taken the decision to delay the morning and afternoon exam sessions by 30 minutes regardless of whether the potential strike action goes ahead or not. This means that:

  • Morning exam sessions scheduled for 10am will now start at 10.30am
  • Afternoon exam sessions scheduled for 2.30pm will now start at 3pm.

Please be aware that tube strikes are outside of your control and are therefore grounds for Extenuating Circumstances if they go ahead. (updated 4 January)

In-person exams outside of this period are not affected and will take place as originally scheduled.

Queen Mary is here to support you and will be providing a normal service throughout this time. If you have any questions or concerns, please speak to your School/Institute.

Key actions:

  • Check the Transport for London (TfL) website for live updates before you travel: https://tfl.gov.uk
  • Look now for alternative routes or methods of transport to get to University
  • Allow longer journey times as alternative routes and transport methods might be busier than usual
  • We recommend you arrive at the venue 30 minutes before the start of your exam to find your seat.

Planned strikes do not always go ahead and are sometimes called off at the last minute, so please check the TfL website for updates regularly.

We are sorry for any undue disruption this may cause. We wish you all the best with your exams.

Best wishes,

Trudy
