Education Awards 2018

The annual Education Awards celebrate the outstanding contributions of staff and students to improving the Queen Mary learning experience.

Published:

Professor Rebecca Lingwood, Vice-Principal (Student Experience, Teaching and Learning), said: “The annual QMSU Education Awards is always an enjoyable event. It provides an opportunity to celebrate the fantastic work being undertaken by our teaching staff and student course representatives, work that typifies the commitment, innovation and excellence in evidence across the institution. Congratulations to the nominees and winners our students have chosen this year.”

Professor Peter McOwan, Vice-Principal (Public Engagement and Student Enterprise), who attended the event alongside Professor Lingwood, added:"It’s always  a pleasure and a privilege for me to play my part in the Education Awards. The chance to recognise the hard work and dedication of both class reps, and outstanding academics and professional services members of staff, in the grandeur of the Drapers' Hall is a highlight of the year. Thanks to the Students' Union for making the magic happen, and congratulations to all those nominated and of course the winners."

The Education Awards include the Course Rep Awards in six categories, awarded to Course Reps who have made a huge difference to students and their courses, and the Teaching Awards in 12 categories, awarded to teaching and support staff that have made an outstanding contribution to the student experience.

The competition was especially strong this year, with the highest number of nominations ever, making the selection extremely difficult and the awards even more prestigious. The Education Awards Ceremony was held on Monday 26 March in Drapers’ Hall, with the record high attendance of 150 people who thoroughly enjoyed their special evening.

My students' interest and dedication renews my enthusiasm; my challenge is to explore engaging ways to communicate. I really value that they appreciate this - and that they know what authoritah means!
