Dyslexia & Dyspraxia Awareness Weeks 2024

Both Dyslexia Awareness Week and Dyspraxia Awareness Week are taking place from 7-13 October 2024. The dates provide an opportunity to raise awareness of the conditions and to challenge common misconceptions.

Dyslexia is a specific learning difference that primarily affects the skills involved in accurate and fluent word reading and spelling. Dyslexia is not linked to intelligence or poor education and occurs regardless of gender, age, ability, or ethnicity. Ten percent of the population are believed to be dyslexic. Dyspraxia is a condition affecting movement and co-ordination. People with dyspraxia may experience difficulties with speech, language and daily tasks such as organisation and planning. Dyspraxia does not affect your intelligence. It is estimated to affect up to 10% of the UK population. Find out more by visiting the Dyspraxia Magazine website.

Students at Queen Mary can access the Disability and Dyslexia Service (DDS) that offers support from the point of application through to graduation.
