Coming to Queen Mary in Clearing, I knew from experience how daunting starting university is, without having the opportunity to prepare. The Queen Mary Buddy Scheme has enabled me to give back to the QMUL community and help first year students integrate into student life. The Scheme has allowed me to connect with students in my specific School and help them settle down socially, academically, and independently. My mentees have given me an outlet to support and encourage students to reach their potential and develop friendships with other mentees and mentors. Having a connection and an opportunity to integrate more into the QM community has not only helped my mentees, but given me a bigger sense of belonging, in an already familial community at Queen Mary.
Joining the Scheme as a mentor and helping students navigate their first year at university is not only fun and exciting but it is also one of the most rewarding experiences and opportunities that Queen Mary offers for current students to give back to others!
