Society profile: LGBT+ Society

The LGBT+ Society was established to provide a community of representation and support for all LGBT+ students and friends at Queen Mary. The society increases visibility of LGBT+ students and raises awareness of the issues faced by the community. We met with society President Jemima Hindmarch to find out more about the support on offer and the various ways you can get involved with their activities and events.

Alumnus profile: Sakher AlQahtani

Queen Mary alumnus, Sakher AlQahtani, from the Institute of Dentistry in Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, was recently nominated for a British Council Study UK Alumni Award for his work creating The Atlas of Tooth Development. He was a finalist for the Entrepreneurship category of the ‘Saudi alumni of British universities’ branch of the awards.

Society profile: Unmanned Aerial Systems society

The Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) society is designing and manufacturing an aerial system capable of autonomously launching, navigating and delivering a light payload to compete in the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) UAS Challenge 2018. We caught up with UAS Society President Muhammad Arslan to find out how the society was founded, who they are looking for to help them compete, and how the competition is going so far

Student profile: Mihai Velciu

Queen Mary Business Management student Mihai Velciu recently took part in the Queen Mary Confucius Institute China Summer Camp, spending two months in Shanghai learning Mandarin Chinese and exploring all that China has to offer. He shares with us some of the exciting things he got up to while he was out there, as well as insights into everyday life in China, why he's fallen in love with travelling, and how you can gain international experience too!

Alumna profile: Isil Etes

Isil Etes is an alumna from the School of Law, with a Master of Laws (LLM) in Public International Law (2011). She is now a Contract Analyst at The Walt Disney Company, as well as a long-standing mentor on QMUL’s QMentoring scheme. Student profile: CISCO Switch Up Challenge

A team of five students from the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science recently won the CISCO Switch Up Challenge. Kapil Dipak Narshidas Pau, Yusuf Pholby, Harriydaran Rajendran, Aathishankar Thayanantha and Prodige Tukala, who are all studying computer science degrees, earned themselves a trip to the CISCO headquarters in California this summer. We caught up with Kapil and Yusuf to talk about how they become involved with the competition and why they think their idea had the winning formula.

Student profile: Ben Earl

Ben Earl was recently announced as part of the 31-man England rugby squad on tour in South Africa during June. He’s a regular fixture of the under-20 team and is signed to Premiership club Saracens. On top of all that, he’s just finishing his second year studying Comparative Literature in the School of Languages, Linguistics and Film. We caught up with him to find out how he manages to juggle all of his commitments.
