Queen Mary transforms into Hogwarts for one day

On the first weekend of March, events company Principal Global DMC took over the ground floor of the Queens’ Building and, working alongside set builders who normally work on film premieres, transformed it into ‘Harry Potter land’ for a function for a Taiwanese company.

Published:

120 guests attended and arrived at Queen Mary by Routemaster buses (unfortunately, arrival by Hogwarts Express was not feasible!). The guests were given school gowns to wear and were welcomed by Harry Potter, Dumbledore, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger who also joined them for photos in a photo booth and in the Octagon. Following welcome drinks, such as the Daily Prophet Daiquiri and You’re a Whiskey Sour Harry! guests walked along the corridor, which was decorated to look like Diagon Alley, to the Octagon – on this night referred to as The Hogwarts Great Hall. Guests were entertained throughout the evening with dance performances from Nu Sxool and Pre Skool, who were finalists on Britain’s Got Talent in 2012, a Taiwanese band and the illusionist Sean Alexander.
