Did you know…
The local NHS service is offering a number of workshops which are running throughout March and have already started on campus. If you are registered with any GP in Tower Hamlets (not just the university Student Health Service) then you can access these excellent one-off sessions.
There are four separate sessions and you can attend as many different ones as you wish.
Managing academic stress
Do you have times when university life seems overwhelming? Perhaps you worry about the amount of work you have to do, as well as fitting in your social life, managing finances and getting on with your flatmates? Stress can make us feel anxious, worried or irritable, with physical symptoms such as feeling shaky, sick and tired. It can be hard to concentrate and difficult to know what to do about it all. In this workshop we will look at what makes us stressed, the impact it has on our lives and learn some techniques to help us manage stress better and feel more relaxed.
Managing deadlines – dealing with procrastination
Do you start off with good intentions, then find that you’ve put off starting your assignment until the last minute? Perhaps you spend a lot of time preparing and run out of time to write it, or perhaps you worry whether it will be good enough or as good as others in your group and so end up trying to avoid thinking about it. These and many other reasons can make meeting university deadlines difficult and leave us feeling tired, stressed and finding it difficult to cope. In this workshop we will look at identifying what leads us to procrastinate and learn some techniques to help you get started and meet your deadlines.
Having trouble sleeping? Tips for managing sleep problems
Many of us have trouble sleeping for various reasons, such as worrying about academic work, assignment deadlines, or the reason may not be obvious. In this workshop we will look at some of the things that stop us sleeping and learn some simple techniques to help you get to sleep and wake up feeling refreshed.
Build your confidence
Many of us lack confidence in one or more areas of our lives. Worrying about whether we can do something, such as making a presentation in a seminar group, passing assignments or making friends can make us feel nervous or unhappy and it may be difficult to know what to do about it. This can lead to hours of worry, falling behind with academic work or even missing lectures or social events. In this workshop we will look at setting individual goals and learn techniques to help us achieve them in simple steps.
