Can you give us a run-down of what QMTV is all about?
We’re the main TV media outlet at Queen Mary. We are a TV station and YouTube channel. We encourage students to write, produce, direct, film and/or star in their own shows.
What sort of topics or genres do you cover in your activities?
We cover a mix. We let students be creative with the drama scripts – they can literally be about anything. We have heads of entertainment and factual too, producing news shows, documentaries and much more.
What opportunities are available to students if they want to get involved?
We provide a variety of opportunities, you can be a part of any or all of the process of making great shows. We have socials and pitch nights for students to meet each other and we advertise external opportunities with companies such as London Nightline and HMV. We are also hoping to offer some editing training within the next few weeks.
Any advice for students who are thinking of joining but aren’t sure if it’s for them?
We often find students are nervous about getting involved. Our advice is always – even if you have no experience – just pick up a camera and give it a go! Practice is the best way and we’re here to support you. Also, attend our socials and get to know us!
How are you planning to develop QMTV over the coming year?
We’re trying to branch out and get QMTV more known. We have already established crossovers with The Print and supporting FilmSoc events. We feel as though we have already opened up QMTV to a wider audience than previous years and will keep going. We hope more students and other outlets approach us.
What kind of activities do you have coming up?
We’re doing a joint film night with Cub magazine in the Hitchcock Cinema (Mile End campus) on Wednesday 1 March and our AGM is taking place on Monday 20 March. We always advertise our events, so check out our Facebook page to see what’s going on.
What’s the best thing about being part of QMTV?
Seeing great shows being made, despite often lacking the equipment or having any budget! We have a close-knit team which is really fun to be a part of.
How can students get in touch with you if they want to be a part of QMTV?
Our email is the best way to get in touch: firstname.lastname@example.org or message us on our Facebook page QMTV. Find our shows on YouTube: qmtvchannel.
