April and May are some of the busiest months for our Mile End and Whitechapel Libraries. The Library staff are working with your Students’ Union Vice President for Education, Imran Hussain, to make some exciting changes for you.
Imran comments: "The libraries are a key area of resource for students at Queen Mary. We all talk about issues that arise, but once in a while it is useful for us to see what good things the libraries do for us. After a successful win on extending weekend opening hours, there was the LIVE innovation challenge which asked students to think up ideas to improve the library, and having sat on the panel we gave up to £500 in prizes to the best ideas and are looking to implement them – watch this space!"
Mile End Library refurbishment
Some refurbishment works and improvements of library facilities took place during the winter vacation. These included water supply and drainage works which should mean less blocking in the toilets, and a reliable water supply during warmer periods.
The Wi-Fi upgrade for the Mile End Library has been completed.
There is now an improved service with stronger coverage within the Library and faster speeds due to improved technology.
This change is part of a QMUL-wide Wi-Fi upgrade taking place, with IT Services upgrading existing Wi-Fi access points and installing additional access points across all campuses.
To provide Wi-Fi feedback or suggest areas for expanding the service, please email email@example.com.

24/7 study facilities at Westfield Smith Library
Library Services have, at short notice, regretfully had to close the basement study facility at West Smithfield outside of staffed Library hours. This has become necessary after discovery of a faulty fire alarm system, which is maintained by the Barts Health NHS Trust. With support of other Professional Services departments, a temporary arrangement is now in place that gives 24/7 access to the IT Lab on the first floor of the Robin Brook Centre.
