Travel information: Line closures affecting QMUL campuses, Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 September

It has been brought to our attention by Transport for London that planned engineering works will affect the District and Hammersmith & City Tube lines and part of the London Overground service on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 September. The Central line is running and will be stopping at Mile End station.

No District line trains will run between Aldgate East and Upminster. No Hammersmith & City Line trains will run between Liverpool Street and Barking. No London Overground trains will operate between Highbury & Islington and Shadwell. There will be no train service to and from Stepney Green and Whitechapel stations. Replacement buses will operate along the affected routes. Travel to Mile End station on the Central line will not be affected.

Travelling to the Mile End campus

Nearest stations: Mile End (Central, Hammersmith & City, District) and Stepney Green (Hammersmith & City, District)

The Central line will be running all weekend so you will be able to take the Tube to Mile End station.  The campus is a ten-minute walk from the station or you can take the 25 bus or 205 bus from Mile End Station – Stop C to Stop F – Regent’s Canal (for Westfield Way) or Stop E Queen Mary / University of London (for the Queens’ Building). 

There is no service on the Hammersmith & City line between Liverpool Street and Barking and a replacement bus service will operate (please see information below). There will be no District line service between Aldgate East and Upminster and a replacement bus service will operate (please see below).

Stepney Green station will be closed. To get to the Mile End campus from central London, take the Tube to Liverpool Street and change on to the Central line eastbound to Mile End station. The campus is a ten-minute walk from the station or you can take the 25 bus or 205 bus from Mile End Station – Stop C to Stop F – Regent’s Canal (for Westfield Way) or Stop E Queen Mary / University of London (for the Queens’ Building).

Arriving to the Mile End campus by car

If you intend to arrive on campus by car, please note that there is no car parking on campus. You will be able to drive onto campus, but we ask that you unload your vehicle within 20 minutes and then move off campus to park. Whilst your vehicle is on campus, you must display the ticket given to you by the Security Officer at the gate and the car driver must remain with the vehicle at all times. We ask that you unload your vehicle as quickly as possible and then move off campus to park your vehicle. Arrival information.

Airport collections
There will be a free bus service for new international students arriving at Heathrow Airport on Saturday 19 September and Sunday 20 September to take students to the Mile End Campus. For more information, please go to the booking site.

Travelling to the Whitechapel campus

Nearest stations: Whitechapel (Hammersmith & City, District, London Overground); Aldgate East (Hammersmith & City, District); Aldgate (Circle, Metropolitan)

There will be no trains to or from Whitechapel station due to Crossrail work at Whitechapel. There is no service on the Hammersmith & City line between Liverpool Street and Barking. There will be no District line service between Aldgate East and Upminster. There will be no London Overground service between Highbury & Islington and Shadwell. Replacement buses will run along all of these routes (please see below). There are other frequent bus services from central and east London to Whitechapel – please check the Transport for London website to plan your route.

Travelling to the Charterhouse Square campus

Nearest stations: Farringdon (Circle, Hammersmith & City, Metropolitan, National Rail) and Barbican (Circle, Hammersmith & City, Metropolitan)
There are no line closures affecting Barbican or Farringdon stations. However, there are closures on the Hammersmith & City and District lines east of Liverpool Street. Please check your route on the Transport for London website.

LINE CLOSURES AFFECTING QMUL CAMPUSES AND REPLACEMENT BUS SERVICES

DISTRICT LINE: Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 September, no service between Aldgate East and Upminster. This is to allow for Crossrail work at Whitechapel, track and drainage replacement work at East Ham and station improvement work at Stepney Green. Replacement buses will operate.

Replacement buses operate Service A: Tower Hill - Aldgate / Aldgate East - Whitechapel - Stepney Green - Mile End - Bow Road - Stratford (for Central and Jubilee lines, London Overground, National Rail and Docklands Light Railway) - Upton Park - East Ham - Barking Service B: Mile End - Bow Road - Bromley-by-Bow - Canning Town (for Jubilee line and Docklands Light Railway) - Plaistow - Stratford (for Central and Jubilee lines, London Overground, National Rail and Docklands Light Railway) Service C: Barking - Upney - Becontree - Dagenham Heathway - Dagenham East Service D: Barking - Dagenham East - Elm Park - Hornchurch - Upminster Bridge - Upminster

HAMMERSMITH & CITY LINE: Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 September, no service between Liverpool Street and Barking, trains are diverted to/from Aldgate. This is to allow for Crossrail work at Whitechapel, track and drainage replacement work at East Ham and station improvement work at Stepney Green. Replacement buses will operate.

LONDON OVERGROUND: Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 September, no service between Highbury & Islington and Shadwell due to Crossrail works. Use London Overground services between Highbury & Islington, Canonbury and Dalston Kingsland; replacement buses between Dalston Kingsland and Shadwell.

Replacement buses operate Service W: Dalston Kingsland (for London Overground connections) - Dalston Junction - Haggerston - Hoxton - Shoreditch High Street - Whitechapel - Shadwell
