Over the summer period Capital Projects in Estates and Facilities will install energy producing solar panels and carry out repair works on the Mile End Library roof as part of QMUL’s Long Term Maintenance programme. The panels are expected to produce 32.43 MWh of generated energy within their first year, the equivalent of the electricity used by 2.4 homes; and a CO2 saving of 17.155 tonnes per year, the equivalent of 8,358 kg coal burned.
Not only does the installation make a positive contribution to our sustainability efforts at QMUL, it also provides research and teaching and learning opportunities for students. The work recently commenced and aims to be completed by Monday 31 August, ahead of the start of the new academic year.
