QMUL Student wins Points of Light award

Tuesday 7 April 2015

Harriette Pearson, the Students’ Union’s current Volunteering Officer for Barts and The London, was awarded the daily Points of Light award on March 17 for setting up the volunteering group Project Play. Coming straight out of Number 10, Points of Light recognizes on a daily basis the outstanding individual volunteers – aka the country’s ‘points of light’ – who have a positive impact in their community. Harriette is the 246th Points of Light in the UK and the only Londoner to win the award in March so far. The Prime Minister’s Office made the announcement on Twitter and the official government website here. This is another great victory for Harriette and her project. Earlier this year she made the top five finalists for the national 2015 Student Volunteer of the Year Award and was the only volunteer from London to be shortlisted. Project Play has been alive and kicking since 2013/14 and encourages Barts students to volunteer their time in the A&E and children’s wards at the Royal London Hospital, and organize play sessions for young patients. Congratulations, Harriette – a well-deserved win!
