Look out for the National Student Survey in January

Are you a final year undergraduate student? On Monday 12 January 2015 you will be contacted by The National Student Survey. This is your chance to tell us what you’ve enjoyed about your experience at QMUL, and where we can improve. Eligible students will be emailed on the day the survey opens, and you will be able to complete the survey from a link in the email.

You’ll see NSS posters, flyers and screensavers around our campuses, and your lecturers, student support officers and course reps will be giving you more information about the NSS and how you can complete it. You have benefited from the feedback of previous students so it’s now your turn to pass on your feedback for the future generations of QMUL students.

What is the NSS?

Now in its eleventh year, the NSS is a nationally recognised annual survey of mostly final year undergraduates in the UK. The survey gives you an opportunity to give your opinions on what you liked about your time at QMUL as well as things that you feel could have been improved.

The survey is administered by Ipsos MORI, an independent market research agency, so answers remain anonymous at all times.

Why should I take part?

  • Provides you with the opportunity to provide honest feedback on your learning experience
  • The results are taken very seriously and your feedback will be used to improve the learning experience at Queen Mary

What happens with the results?

The NSS results are made publicly available to help prospective students make informed decisions of where and what to study. Institutions and students’ unions also use the data to identify areas of strengths and weaknesses to help effect change and bring about enhancements to improve the student experience for future generations of students. Data from previous surveys are available on Unistats.

Changes we have already made following your feedback

Queen Mary has been participating in the NSS since 2005. As a result of listening to what former students had to say, many changes at QMUL have been made, such as:

  • Launching QMplus
  • Developing a mobile app for students
  • Buying more PC’s and rolling out wi-fi access
  • Making more books available in the Libraries

How will I be able to complete it?

From Monday 12 January 2015 eligible students will be sent an invitation email to complete the survey by Ipsos MORI. Later in the survey, students who haven’t responded may be contacted by post or ultimately by telephone. You may opt out of the survey at any point.
