Science and Engineering Academic Society Awards

On Wednesday 26 March students and staff from Schools from the Faculty of Science and Engineering gathered to celebrate the activities of the Faculty’s academic societies. The Science and Engineering Academic Society Awards, taking place for the first time, were attended by over 40 students from the societies along with academic staff from the Faculty.

The Awards, prizes and certificates were presented by Julia Shelton, Dean for Taught Programmes in the Faculty of Science and Engineering, and a full list of winners is available below.

The Society of the Year award was presented to the Biomedics Society, who were praised for their great events, such as Professor Robert Winston, and collaboration with societies from across Queen Mary.

Rebecca Fickling, who won the President's President Award for her work with PsiStar Society, said: 'Receiving the award is a great achievement for myself and the society and goes a long way to support our belief PsiStar really does have a presence. I have no doubt that next year's committee will build on our success, striving to provide the best academic and student experience for all those involved. Being recognised for our hard work carries a great deal of reward.'

Julia Shelton, Dean for Taught Programmes in the Faculty of Science and Engineering, said ‘I am so pleased to see students getting involved in doing a huge range of things around people or topics related to their degrees. The academic societies in science and engineering have achieved so much in the last year. The development of communities in the faculty is really important for everyone and none of this would be possible without the engagement of both the students and the staff who are helping to support them.’
