New Year, New Opportunities – The Welcome Back Fair 2014

Thursday 2 January 2014

Would you like to make more of your experience at university, but aren’t sure where to start? With New Year’s just behind us, now is the perfect time to look forward and think about what you want to take with you from your time at QM, and the place to begin is the Welcome Back Fair! It is being held Wednesday 15 January, 1-4pm in the Students’ Union Hub.

The Welcome Back Fair is all about giving you another chance to find out what Queen Mary Students’ Union has to offer and make the most of your time here – whether this is through societies, volunteering, sports clubs, student media or one of the many other opportunities which will be on display on the day. This will be a great chance to find out more about what is happening around QM, and give you a taster of the type of activities you can get involved in.

There will be information about all the various societies – ranging from the culturally, politically or religiously based societies, to societies that cater for knitters, or people with a love of cheese! The Welcome Back Fair gives you the chance to explore all these different societies and ask them any questions you might have.

As well as information on our societies, you can also find out more about volunteering. Volunteering is a terrific way to meet new people, gain important skills for your CV and to make a difference in the local area. There is a huge choice of voluntary positions, such as attending canal clean ups, blogging, befriending, event organising or fundraising.

There is enormous sports club involvement at QM and the clubs have a reputation for being a great way to meet people and have fun while staying fit. There is a list of over 40 sports clubs to join – including parkour, football, belly dancing, rock climbing and cheerleading.

There will also be information from the student media channels, including QM’s newspaper, TV station, radio station and magazine. There are lots of ways to get involved, whether it’s writing an opinion piece for the QMessenger, presenting on camera for QMTV or helping to put together the newest edition of CUB magazine.

On top of this there will also be plenty of information about QMotion memberships, upcoming QM events and about all the shops and cafes based around campus.

The vast variety of activities on offer at the Welcome Back Fair means that even if you aren’t sure what it is you want to get involved in, there is bound to be something for everyone!
