Dental students take home first prize and a £10k research grant

Monday 25 March 2013

Students from the Dental School won the first prize at the British Dental Association (BDA) / Dentsply Student Clinician Awards 2013 on Thursday 21 March, with the research project ‘A novel approach to designing a rechargeable fluoride battery’. The school will also receive a £10,000 research grant to support further undergraduate research projects.

As the national winner, student Mark Franks (though we must also acknowledge input from Corwin Ezra Hine – as this effectively was a joint research project – however the rules only allowed one entrant per school) will be invited to the American Dental Association meeting in New Orleans this October as an honoured guest of Dentsply.

Congratulations to Mark Franks and Corwin Ezra Hine.

This achievement would not have been possible without the contributions and support of our staff - Dr Mangala Patel, Professor Robert Hill, Dr Sandra Parker and Dr Natalia Karphukina.
