On Friday 15 March students and staff from SMD were amongst others from around QM celebrated at the Drapers’ Hall for the QMSU Education Awards. The Awards bring together the SU’s Course Rep awards and Queen Mary’s Teaching and Learning Awards for the first time to celebrate all of the good work taking place across QM.
The event, set in the beautiful Drapers’ Hall, owned by the Drapers’ Company, who have a long association with QM, was a glittering event attended by over 100 students and staff.
Course reps Kerrie Wilson, Aaron Braddy and Alex Fowler received the Course Rep Learning Resources Campaign Award for their work in relation to the West Smithfield Library. John Adu, Clinical Teaching Fellow specialising in anatomy, received the best teacher prize for Academic Support. Aamaneh Hawash was nominated for Course Rep of the Year. Congratulations to all those who received an award and those who were nominated!
Professor Peter McOwan, Vice Principal for External Affairs and Public Engagement, and Professor Susan Dilly, Vice Principal of Teaching and Learning, gave speeches and presented awards to the recipients. Professor Susan Dilly commented on the Awards: ‘It was great that the categories, nominations and voting for the awards were entirely student led for the first time. The Education Awards gave us the chance to celebrate QM's community approach to enhancing the student experience. It was wonderful to be able to celebrate the contributions of our teaching staff and our course reps together.’
The event was concluded with a speech from Gaby Dale Leal, the Vice President Elect for Education. Gaby was recently elected in the Students’ Union elections and will take over from Jade Lee, current Vice President for Education.
