Can you calculate faster than a computer? Magic at Mile End: The Secrets of Mental Maths

The Maths Magic at Mile End series continues on Wednesday 6 March at 6.30pm in the Drapers' Lecture Theatre, Geography Building, Mile End Campus. Can you calculate faster than a computer? Arthur Benjamin, Professor of Mathematics at Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, California, will demonstrate how to mentally add and multiply numbers faster than a calculator, compute the day of the week of any date in history, and other amazing feats of mind.

Dr Arthur Benjamin is also a professional magician, and for the last 25 years he has presented his mixture of math and magic all over the world to thousands of groups. He has authored several books and DVD courses, including The Joy of Mathematics and The Secrets of Mental Math. In their ‘Best of America’ issue, Reader's Digest recently called him "America's Best Math Whiz." In his entertaining and fast-paced performance, Dr Benjamin will demonstrate how to mentally add and multiply numbers faster than a calculator, compute the day of the week of any date in history, and other amazing feats of mind.
