Research projects – calls for volunteers

Monday 4 February 2013

There are several research projects at QM that require volunteers. Projects include a studying into psycho-linguistics in Swedish-English bilinguals and an exploration into the link between Down‘s Syndrome and supplementary education.

Psycho-Linguistics Study in Swedish-English Bilinguals

We would like to invite you to participate in a research project (study ref: QMREC 2012-19, approved by Queen Mary, University of London Research Ethics Committee).

We are looking for students with Swedish as their first language and having learnt English after the age of seven, for a psycho-linguistic study in Swedish-English bilinguals. The study will involve completing two questionnaires and participating in a task on a computer, where your answers will be recorded. Overall, this will last no longer than 30 minutes. You will be remunerated £5 for your time. If you decide to take part you are still free to withdraw at any time and without giving a reason.

Please contact Ms Maneet Relom (bt09259@qmul.ac.uk) or Dr Tina Eilola (t.eilola@qmul.ac.uk) or telephone 020 7882 7485 for further information.

Research project exploring Down’s Syndrome and education

We are researching the impact that supplementary education from an early age can have on the later lives of individuals with Down's Syndrome. If you are a friend, relative or carer of anybody with Down's Syndrome, or have at any time been in fairly regular contact with individuals with DS, we would really appreciate your participation in this anonymous online questionnaire, which asks for your opinions on different educational options for individuals with DS, and should not take more than 15-20 minutes to complete.

The study has the potential to improve intervention opportunities and make the later lives of people with DS more comfortable, so your participation will be highly valued; and you will also be invited to take part in a raffle for three £50 Amazon gift vouchers as a thank you for your time.
