Monday 7 January 2013
The National Student Survey (NSS) 2013 opened online today, Monday 7 January, to final year undergraduates. While Queen Mary officially opens for the NSS on Monday 14 January, you can complete the survey online from today at www.thestudentsurvey.com
What is the NSS?
Now in its ninth year, the NSS is a nationally recognised annual survey of mostly final year undergraduates in the UK. The survey gives you an opportunity to give your opinions on what you liked about your time at Queen Mary as well as things that you feel could have been improved.
The survey is administered by Ipsos MORI, an independent market research agency, so answers remain anonymous at all times.
Why should I take part?
• Provides you with the opportunity to provide honest feedback on your learning experience
• Your feedback will be used to improve the learning experience at Queen Mary
• The results are taken very seriously and inform the quality assurance system with regards to teaching quality
• Results are used by prospective students to make decisions on what and where to study
What happens with the results?
The NSS results are made publicly available to help prospective students make informed decisions of where and what to study. Universities and students’ unions also use the results to identify areas of strengths and weaknesses to help effect change and bring about enhancements to improve the student experience for future generations of students. Results from previous surveys are available on Unistats website.
Queen Mary has been participating in the NSS since 2005. As a result of listening to what former students had to say, many changes at Queen Mary have been made, such as making exam timetables and results available online, rolling out wi-fi access, launching QM+ Plus virtual learning environment, buying more PC’s, and introducing ‘pay by card’ in the Curve, Mucci’s and Nucleus. Find out what else we have done in response to feedback from students who completed the NSS.
How do I complete it?
From Monday 14 January 2013 eligible students will be sent an invitation email to complete the survey by Ipsos MORI. Later, students who haven’t responded may be contacted by post or ultimately by telephone.
You can however complete the NSS now online or via your smartphone at www.thestudentsurvey.com. You may opt out of the survey at any point.
