PhD student Hang Gu from the School of Physics and Astronomy organised the First Queen Mary Chinese-British Students and Scholars Forum (QM-CSSA) at Mile End in November 2013.
More than 80 participants from Queen Mary and other universities, such as Oxford University and UCL convened at Geography Building to discuss the latest advances in Materials and Information Technology.
Six scholars were invited to give plenary speeches for their scientific achievements in different fields - they include Prof Mike Watkinson (SBCS), Prof Yang Hao (EECS), Prof Bill Gillin (SPA), Prof. Qingrong Wei (SEMS), Dr. Alvaro Mata (SEMS), Visiting Professor from UCL Dr. Weifeng Lu.
Professor Wen Wang (Dean for Research) and Professor Steve Lloyd (Head of Physics Department) opened the forum. Mr. Zhengwang Jiang (Officers in Chinese Embassy) on behalf of the Education Section of Chinese Embassy wished the forum a complete success.
Director of Material Research Institute, Professor Martin Dove closed the event by hoping for further collaboration among different research fields.
President of QM-CSSA, Hang Gu, said: “The Chinese-British Students and Scholars Forum has only been active for a year and in short period we’ve managed to organise a lively and educational conference, which was thoroughly enjoyable. I’d like to thank Professor Wen Wang in particular for his support in organising the event and suggesting speakers.”
