Monday 2 December 2013
Unison, UCU and Unite are taking strike action on Tuesday 3 December 2013 in higher education institutions across the UK, including Queen Mary. That means that staff who are members of those Unions have been called upon by the Unions to not fulfil their contractual requirements, which may include not coming into work.
Your School will attempt to minimise disruption and will inform you of any alternative arrangements as soon as possible. If you have any concerns, or encounter any issues on the day, please contact your school.
The strike action relates to a disagreement between the Unions and the Universities and Colleges Employers Association (UCEA), of which Queen Mary is a member, relating to the amount we should increase staff pay. Some brief background information on the circumstances leading up to this action are outlined on the staff intranet Connect, which students can access when logged on to the network.
With no end to the dispute in sight, QM has followed UCEA’s recommendation to implement the pay increase of one per cent to QM staff on the national pay scale. This is without prejudice to any on-going discussions between UCEA and the recognised Unions.
