Be on your guard against phishing – report suspicious emails to the IT Helpdesk

Monday 7 October 2013

There has been an increase in email phishing activity being reported recently, and IT Services has asked everyone to be more vigilant than usual. Please be especially careful of any email that asks you for your QM username and password, either directly or indirectly, ie via a link to change your password or increase your mailbox quota.

IT Services will never send you an email with a direct link to change your password. If in doubt, please call the IT Helpdesk on 020 7882 8888 or email its-helpdesk@qmul.ac.uk.

Downloading apps – AppGrad
Please also be careful of unofficial university apps that ask for your personal information, such as AppGrad. Unknown products such as this that request your QM login credentials on their service are a security risk.

Regarding AppGrad, IT Services have not been approached by this company and do not have an understanding of what security measures are in place to protect any details that may be entered or who has access to them.

If you have any questions, please call the IT Helpdesk on 020 7882 8888 or email its-helpdesk@qmul.ac.uk.
