As the current academic year draws to a close, the Student Enquiry Centre has put together some helpful tips on helping you prepare for September.
All students must re-enrol each academic year. Re-enrolment normally opens mid-August (slightly later if you have late summer re-sits/assessment). Once it’s open you will receive an email to your QM account to let you know it’s time to re-enrol. Re-enrolment is an essential requirement for your programme and must be completed by Friday 4 October.
Further information regarding re-enrolment can be found on the Academic Registry and Council Secretariat webpages.
Please note: once your student record is rolled forward into the next academic (i.e. your student status is “Registered-Cleared to Enrol” for the 2013/14 year on MySIS) you will not be able to request student status letters or transcripts until you have completed re-enrolment.
Letter and provisional transcript requests
If you’re a continuing undergraduate and postgraduate taught student (not including UG medicine / dentistry, and PHD/MPhil and MD(RES) students) and require a student status letter (e.g. bank, council tax, confirmation of study etc) or provisional transcript please request these via email prior to the start of the 2013/14 academic year. This is so you can avoid the queues the Student Enquiry Centre experiences during the first few weeks of the academic year when new students enrol (i.e. 16 September – approx. 25 October 2013).
If you are a UG medicine or dental student then you can request a letter/transcript from the Student Office on the Whitechapel campus. Please see their website for more information: www.smd-edu.qmul.ac.uk/student_office/.
If you are a PhD, MPhil or MD(Res) student and require a letter then please see the Research Degree Office's webpages for information about how you can request one: www.arcs.qmul.ac.uk/research-degrees/research-degree-students/index.html.
Please note that the Student Enquiry Centre is currently unable to provide provisional transcripts until the official results publication dates (10 July for undergraduate students and 29 July for postgraduate taught finalists). This is due to 2012/13 assessment results being processed and therefore provisional results have begun to appear on transcripts.
However, we can provide students with a deadline to meet a confirmation of study letter on request (e.g. for a masters application), which includes a short explanation as to why QM cannot currently provide transcripts.
Letter/provisional transcripts requests via email are handled within five working days and are posted via second class mail. Please make sure your address is up-to-date on MySIS prior to requesting a letter/provisional transcript.
If you need a letter or provisional transcript (after the relevant official publication date) urgently then please visit the Student Enquiry Centre in person. You can find our location and opening hours on our webpages: www.arcs.qmul.ac.uk/students/sec/index.html.
Replacement ID cards
As well as for letter/transcript requests, we recommend that if you are a continuing undergraduate and postgraduate taught students (not including UG Medicine / Dentistry, PHD/MPhil and MD(RES) students) and have lost your student ID card or it has expired and you are due to continue your studies this September, you organise your new student ID card prior to the start of the new academic year. This is so you can avoid the long queues the Student Enquiry Centre experiences during the first few weeks of the academic year when new students enrol (i.e. 16 September – approx. 25 October 2013).
If you are a UG medicine or dental student then you can request a replacement ID card from the Student Office on the Whitechapel campus. Please see their website for more information: www.smd-edu.qmul.ac.uk/student_office/.
If you are a PhD, MPhil or MD(Res) student and require a replacement ID card then please see the Research Degree Office's webpages for information about how you can request one: www.arcs.qmul.ac.uk/research-degrees/research-degree-students/index.html.
Information about replacement student ID cards can be found on the Student Enquiry Centre’s webpages.
Student Oyster card renewals
For those with a student Oyster card and who are due to continue their studies this September, you should receive an email from Transport for London in September which will include a web link for you to renew your student Oyster card. Once you have followed their online instructions QM will be asked to re-confirm your student Oyster eligibility.
Please note QM can only re-confirm your eligibility once you have completed re-enrolment (i.e. have the student status “Registered – Fully Enrolled” for the 2013/14 academic year on MySIS).
If you do not already have a student Oyster card but wish to apply for one then please see the Transport for London 18+ student oyster web pages. Please make sure you read the terms and conditions in full before applying. Please note the scheme runs from 1September – 31 July and therefore QM will not be able to confirm the eligibility of any new applications during August and until you have re-enrolled.
