Student Switch Off: France House are the top energy savers!

Monday 3 June 2013

Students living in France House have won the 2012-13 Student Switch Off energy-saving competition! Over this academic year electricity consumption in the hall reduced by seven per cent compared to usage in previous years. As a reward Ben and Jerry's ice cream tubs were given to everybody living in France House on Tuesday 28 May.

Together, all the halls residents have reduced their carbon emissions by eight tonnes this year which is equivalent to making 485,000 cups of tea! It just goes to show that small actions can make a real difference in the fight against climate change.

Recycling winners
We also visited halls kitchens twice this year to audit recycling.  Some of you got perfect scores for being brilliant at recycling! Step forward flats: Albert Stern 2, Creed 4, Dawson 3 East, Feilden 15, Maynard 16 and 19, Varey 47, Maurice 19, Pooley 26 and 12. Well done!

Final photo competition of the year! Win tickets to Beach Break Live for you and three friends!

To enter just post a photo on our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/qmulstudentswitchoff) of yourself saving time and energy by putting a lid on your pan. We’ll give the first five photos we get Ben and Jerry’s and every photo we get sent will go into our national prize draw to win four tickets to Beach Break Live to see Jake Bugg, Devlin and much much more (www.beachbreaklive.com)!

So get your summer sorted and send the Student Switch Off team a photo now!
